It is NSW law that at least one fire detector be installed on each level of the unit
and another one near the bedroom and the rest of the unit. Smoke alarms should be
replaced every 10 years to make sure the sensitivity of the system has not changed.
The department of fair trading outlines that fire alarms are the responsibility of

Sprinklers
Powerdata NSW can provide consultation on the design, installation and commissioning
of the fire sprinkler system in accordance with AS2118.1. Existing designs can be
audited in accordance with the regulations and in the event of non compliance repairs
can be carried out or a new system can be created. The ongoing maintenance on the
sprinklers is completed to ensure compliance with AS1851 Section 2.
Fire Extinguishers
Each building has a number of requirements in relation to fire extinguishers. This
includes the number of units and their location (AS 2444) as well as the correct
signage (AS2700). Powerdata NSW can provide an auditing service where the relevant
Australian standards are compared to the current positioning of the fire extinguishers,
fire blankets and signage.
Powerdata NSW is also able to provide an inspection and service to the extinguishers
in accordance with AS 1851. We will manage the frequency of the test to ensure that
your building always meets the Australian Standards and the relevant state laws.
Fire Door Compliance
Powerdata NSW has the ability to provide consultancy on new and existing fire doors.
These audits are in compliance with AS 1905.1 and AS 1851 section 17. We will provide
a certificate along with records of the test as required.
Fire Hose Reels
Proper installation and maintenance of fire hose reels is vital for the safety of
people within the building. AS 2441 outlines the correct installation of fire hose
reels and the signage required for each unit. Powerdata NSW is available for consultation
on the installation and can supply a certificate of compliance. AS 1851 outlines
the correct maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment. The fire hose reels
need to be tested regularly to prove the function of 20 litres per minute. Powerdata
NSW is able to manage the testing of the reels in order to ensure the certification
is supplied on time.
Fire Pumps
Fire pumps need to be inspected on a regular basis to test their functionality. This
test is to be conducted in accordance with AS 1851. Powerdata NSW is able to manage
the frequency of these tests and provide certification for the pumps within the building.
Fire Collars
Fire Collars are required in all penetrations larger than 32mm and are required to
be installed in accordance with AS 1530.4 They also need to be inspected on an annual
basis and a compliance certificated be issued to the local authorities
Emergency Evacuation Plans
Emergency and evacuation procedures are extremely important for the safety of the
people within the building. The Australian standards outline the minimum requirements
for these evacuation plans and the mandatory procedures and inspections that are
required from the building owners. Powerdata NSW can help create an evacuation plan
and provide the relevant signage in order to comply with the laws and Australian
standards. Powerdata NSW is also able to provide training on the plans that have
been created.
